‘American Sniper’ Smashes January Box Office Record With $30.5 Million | Film News

Clint Eastwood‘s modern war drama, American Sniper, has been smashing it at the box office, so much so that it’s destroyed the January record by raking in a whopping $30.5 million. The film starring Bradley Cooper took double the amount that Liam Neeson‘s Taken 3 scooped up and is 78% higher than the previous January record of $17.1 million, set by Cloverfield back in 2008. These are some crazy numbers and it doesn’t look like the record smashing is going to slow down anytime soon with the film estimated to take at least $65 million in its first weekend of wide release.

Telling the story of Navy SEAL sniper, Chris Kyle (Cooper), American Sniper focuses not only on the difficulties of modern war but also the emotional turmoil that Kyle struggles to deal with as he finds that home doesn’t feel as peaceful as it once did, as he struggles to leave war behind. Also starring Kyle Gallner, Sienna Miller and Ben Reed, American Sniper is already out in theatres, check out the trailer.
