Amy Schumer Denies ‘Joke Thief’ Allegations | Film News

It’s an age-old problem in the comedy industry that some enterprising comedians borrow, copy or downright steal the jokes of their peers, and pass them off as their own. One popular Northern comic has even earned the nickname ‘The Gag-Pie’ for his fondness of performing other people’s material without their consent. Now, Joe Schmo has uploaded a video to Vimeo, entitled Amy Schumer Is A Joke Thief accusing the popular comedian of doing the very same thing.

I’ve watched Mr Schmo’s video, and, aside from the fruity language, the evidence is pretty damning. Other comedians such as Patrice O’Neal, Kathleen Madigan and Tammy Pescatelli may want to invite their lawyers over to check out the video too. It’s less ‘Netflix and chill’ and more ‘Netflix and steal.’

Schumer is very responsive to the buzz of publicity that she generates, though. She went straight to Twitter to dismiss the ‘joke thief’ label, stating “On my life, I have never and would never steal a joke.” Maybe the video touched a nerve, as Schumer also appeared on Jim Norton’s SiriusXM‘s radio show yesterday (January 20) to further rubbish these claims. She even went as far as to declare she’d take a polygraph test to prove her innocence.
