Anna Meredith – The Vapours | Music Video

UK composer and electronic artist, Anna Meredith, shares the new music video for “The Vapours”, taken off her debut album, Varmints, released in March. Recent performances at the BBC Proms have included collaborations with Laura Marling and The Stranglers for the first 6Music Prom. See below for tour dates.

“The Vapours” opens with cheery, almost tremolo noodling on the guitar. Then synth makes a grand entrance. Very Eighties in its majesty, before the hit of the bass drum takes centre stage, before gradually busying itself into climax.

The song proper seems very progressive, very Genesis. The whole arrangement is quite grand, indeed. A subsequent crescendo knocks the socks off the previous one, before leading into chunky brass syncopating with high octane hits of hi-hat. It rises, again, for its end.

Director, Ed Warren, was behind the visuals and much of the video centres around each band member playing behind a veil. This is cut and chopped, lights syncopating to the beat of the music, to create the ghostly effect of each member appearing in front of that veil at the flick of a light. That sock knocking crescendo is expertly conveyed with drop of said veil.
