The Negative reviews around Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice have failed to dampen the films profits, the feature debuting with an estimated $170.1 million in North America, the sixth best weekend opening ever.

The stakes for the superhero feature were high, Warner Bros needing to make more than $250 million to make the film and the studio’s bid to kick start the DC Comics Universe hangs in the balance, fighting against scepticism over Ben Affleck’s casting as Batman, and a barrage of bad reviews earlier in the week.

Audience reviews of the movie gave it a B Cinema Score, suggesting many of the fans agree with the critics, that sentiment shown in the sixth place ranking of its debut; the allure of the two heroes battling each other not enough to set a new record for the pre-summer releases.
