Cher Joins ‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again’ | Film News

With a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, and somehow an Academy Award, entertainment deity Cher is always on the hunt for something else to satiate her thirst for show-biz. She’s found her latest spoil in the singing, dancing, acting extravaganza that is the Mamma Mia! sequel, Here We Go Again.

Cher seemingly hinted at her involvement earlier in the week with a picture of dazzling go-go boots, but has waited to confirm her involvement until now. No stranger to musicals, Cher was well received in Burlesque, and fans are looking forward to this next venture. Cher singing ABBA? I’m intrigued.

Cher’s legendary status is somehow matched by the stars returning for the sequel; icon Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Amanda Seyfried, and Christine Baranski are returning for the sequel, joined by newcomers Lily James, Alexa Davies, Jessica Keenan Wynn, Jeremy Irvine, Josh Dylan, and Hugh Skinner. They each play younger versions of the original characters.

Ol Parker (Imagine Me & You, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) writes and directs the sequel which began shooting in September.

Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus are again on board to provide music and lyrics, and serve as executive producers.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! hits theaters on July 20, 2018.
