Chris Pine Is Really Excited About ‘Wonder Woman’ | Film News

When you think of Marvel and DC – you think Iron Man, Thor and Batman. Those films have become known as the boy’s clubs. Sure, women do appear in the films but as the token scientist or love interest, and when they finally get to taste the action they more often than not assume the role of damsel in distress. Yes, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow is the exception to the rule – but where is her film?

In 2017 the highly anticipated Wonder Woman will swirl into cinemas and flip this damsel in distress cliché – and hopefully help redefine some of the genres tropes in the process. While a lot people are thrilled about this role reversal, no one is as excited as Chris Pine. In an interview with Total Film he spoke about the upcoming film and his excitement over letting Gal Gadot take centre stage – proving once again that he is one of the good ones.

“It’ll be a f—— blast, I couldn’t be happier to be supporting Gal [Gadot] in what’s going to be the first female-driven superhero film”. OK, so his statement isn’t entirely correct (he must have completely forgotten about Catwoman and Elektra), but his heart is in the right place – so it’s not even worth nitpicking. He didn’t stop there, he went on to address the lack of female-driven narratives.

“I think in the world today we’ve had plenty enough of male-driven everything,” he added. “It’s finally time to see how wonderful the world can be with beautiful, strong, intelligent women kicking some major ass”. Pine is set to play Steve Trevor, Wonder Woman’s main love interest. Wonder Woman is due for release on June 23, 2017.
