Chris Pratt, Julia Louis-Dreyfus & More Cast In Pixar’s ‘Onward’ | Film News

Until now, details on Pixar’s upcoming film Onward have been relatively scant. Monsters University director Dan Scanlon is set to direct what has been described as a film that follows two teenage elf brothers who live in a suburban fantasy world who set out on a quest to discover if there is any magic left in the universe.

It is set to be the first original Pixar movie since Coco, and is currently scheduled to be the first Pixar movie to be released in the first quarter of the year (of 2020, but don’t be surprised if you hear news of Pixar pushing the release date back towards the summer).

Anyway, with much of the recent Pixar talk focusing on next summer’s Toy Story 4, Onward has kind of taken a back seat. But Pixar have now revealed who is a part of the lead voice cast, and it’s a very impressive collection of talent.

Chris Pratt, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tom Holland, and Octavia Spencer will be the main voices of the film. Not only are they all great actors and should make a great ensemble, but they all have previous experience lending their voices to animation (apart from Holland, but he has completed a voice role for the upcoming movie Spies In Disguise).

In a press release, Scanlon said of the film: “At Pixar we try to create stories that come from some kind of personal truth. This film was inspired by my own relationship with my brother”.

Onward will likely continue to remain in the background with the looming behemoth that is Toy Story 4 just around the corner, but it’s always exciting when Pixar releases a new film that is not a sequel to an already established classic. If Onward can match the brilliance of their recent original output such as Coco and Inside Out, we’ll be in for something special.

The film is currently slated to open March 6, 2020.
