Classic Children’s Brand ‘Peanuts’ Lands New Owner | Film News

DHX Media has gotten their hands on classic children’s brands Peanuts and Strawberry Shortcake, but we don’t have any reason to yell “Good grief!” just yet!

DHX Media feels like a perfect fit for ‘Peanuts’”, said Jean Schulz, the widow of the Peanuts creator Charles Schulz. “We respect their innovative and rich history with developing children’s shows and brands, and we look forward to working with Dana and his team to steward ‘Peanuts’ in the future.

With the support from the old Peanuts family, the deal is expected to close around the end of June this year. The acquisition will give DHX 80% controlling interest of Peanuts and full control of the Strawberry Shortcake IP. The deal will come as a part of a $345 million acquisition of the entertainment division of Iconix Brand Group.

DHX is ecstatic! CEO Dana Landry believes Peanuts to be “one of the world’s greatest entertainment brands, with a tremendous global legacy of comics, animated content and consumer products reaching back almost 70 years.

We are thrilled by the opportunity to welcome Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the entire ‘Peanuts’ gang into our family of leading kids’ properties,” she said.

Congratulations on the acquisition and here’s to a bright future for Charlie Brown and the gang!
