Damon Dash Presents Kanye West With BET Visionary Award, Both Working On ‘Loisaidas’ Movie | Music News

BET aired the annual BET Honors award ceremony last night, with Damon Dash fittingly presenting the ‘Visionary Award’ to Kanye West. Co-founder of Roc-a-Fella Records where Yeezy started his music career, Dash was one of the first people to give the producer a chance to transition into becoming a frontline rapper on the label.

Known for speaking his mind and delivering some infamously brash rants in the past, Dame was maturedly composed on stage alongside his daughter Ava. Admitting he still has unresolved “emotional” issues with Kanye (likely due to West siding with Jay-Z after Roc-a-Fella dissolved), he praised his courage, stating that “he stands behind his point of view even when no one else agrees with him”. Kanye’s acceptance speech was equally as entertaining, whilst he spoke on issues such as family and racism. He also made sure to let us know that gold-digger stereotypes of Kim Kardashian are not true as “she has dated broke black guys too”.

The personal problems between Dame and ‘Ye seem to have been resolved in recent weeks, as it was announced that Kanye would be joining Dame Dash in a new independent movie venture. Dash was previously behind motion pictures including Paper Soldiers (Kevin Hart) and Paid in Full (Mekhi Phifer, Cam’ron), and has now announced Loisaidas. The film is set to be executive produced by Kanye West and will star Dash himself, Murda Mook, and The LOX. Check out both BET speeches below, as well as the Loisaidas film trailer.
