Daredevil’s Steven S. DeKnight To Direct ‘Pacific Rim 2’ | Film News
The sequel to the 2013 blockbuster finally seems to be back on track after multiple delays, budget and script issues put it in limbo and this time Guillermo del Toro will serve as a producer while newcomer Steven S. DeKnight will helm the project.
There is no word on what direction Pacific Rim 2 will take so it remains to be seen whether any of the original cast members, including Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba and Charlie Day will return.
The script which was turned in September was penned by Jon Spaiths whose last credits include Prometheus, Doctor Strange and Passengers. However with the switch in the director’s seat we can only speculate at the moment whether this script is the finished or it is expected be rewritten.
Pacific Rim 2 will be the first feature film for Steven S. DeKnight who is popular for his work on Daredevil and Spartacus. The film has Guillermo del Toro’s blessing who took it to twitter to announce the news himself and adding confidently:
“We are positive that this is a great choice to take what was established and go beyond!”
This makes us optimistic that his passion project is in good hands and we will see the Kaiju/Jaeger universe expand!
