Dwayne Johnson In First Trailer For 80’s Video Game Adaptation ‘Rampage’ | Film Trailer

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have released the first trailer for action film, Rampage, which reteams star Dwayne Johnson with his San Andreas director, Brad Peyton. If the film sounds like your standard action fare, then you’d be right…mostly. It looks to be pretty much the same film as San Andreas, except with giant animals on the loose.

The film is based on the 1980s video game of the same name. Johnson stars as a primatologist who shares a close bond with an intelligent silverback gorilla, George. But a rogue genetic experiment transforms George into a gigantic, raging monster, and before too long, some more genetically altered predators, including a 30-foot wolf and a giant crocodile, are on the loose.

The trailer is nothing special, and apart from the giant animals it’s not that easy to differentiate from the numerous other action films Johnson has starred in in recent years. Yet the trailer hints at taking the giant, rampaging (get it?) animals seriously and perhaps pushing the film into camp, b-movie territory. If the film isn’t good, maybe it could at least be a cult hit.

Alongside Johnson, the film stars Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, Joe Manganiello and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The film will arrive in cinemas on April 20, 2018.
