Dylan O’Brien Is Out To Kill In New Trailer For ‘American Assassin’ | Film Trailer

Lionsgate have released a new trailer for upcoming film American Assassin. The synopsis reads: “twenty three-year-old Mitch lost his parents to a tragic car accident at the age of fourteen, and his girlfriend to a terrorist attack just as they were engaged. Seeking revenge, he is enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy as a black ops recruit.” Action ensues.

The film is based on the book by Vince Flynn, part of a wider series by the author that will no doubt also be adapted for the big screen. Still, the film is nothing original and very much echoes a Jason Bourne, Jack Reacher type narrative and style. I’m not convinced.

On the bright side, Dylan O’Brien no longer looks like a teenager in the lead, understandably when the role itself is more ‘adult’ in nature (though you’ll have to be naive to think the plot is a realistic tale of American triumph). Michael Keaton stars alongside the Maze Runner actor as his mentor. Michael Cuenta (Homeland, Elementary) directs.

American Assassin comes to cinemas September 15. Watch the trailer below.
