Felicity Jones To Head Ruth Bader Ginsburg Biopic ‘On The Basis Of Sex’ | Film News
Rogue One star Felicity Jones is set to play Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in biopic On the Basis of Sex, which details Ginsburg’s fight for equal rights throughout her law career. Ginsberg was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1993 by Bill Clinton, becoming the second female justice. She remains, at 84, one of three female justices on the current court, alongside Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.
Mimi Leder (Pay it Forward, Shameless) directs the film from Daniel Stiepleman‘s script, an inclusion on the 2014 Black List. Natalie Portman was originally considered for the title role.
Felicity Jones received an Oscar nomination for her performance in The Theory of Everything and, as biopics go, will likely receive another for playing Ginsburg. Jones is also attached to star in a movie inspired by classic ballet story Swan Lake, directed by Luca Guadagnino.
On the Basis of Sex will begin shooting in Montreal this September.
