First Trailer For AMC’s ‘Preacher’ Adaptation Is A Simmering Spiral Of Violence | Film Trailer

The first trailer for AMC’s adaptation of the blasphemously hilarious Garth Ennis comic Peacher is here, and it looks like a hell of a ride. The series centres on Jesse, a priest with a dark past who is possessed by a half angel/half demon entity that allows him to compromise other’s free will. Followed by an Irish punk vampire and his gun-slinging ex-girlfriend, Jesse rampages towards his absent God, with a host of violent Catholic priests, occult extremists and government agents hot on his tail.

The show stars Dominic Cooper as Jesse, Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy the vampire, and Ruth Negga as the pistol-toting Tulip. Helmed by long term creative partners, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, alongside Breaking Bad‘s Sam Catlin, Preacher is based on the Vertigo comic of the same name. An adult branch of the DC brand, Vertigo was a haven for creative minds unwilling to adhere to the conventions of superhero comic books in the 90s.

Alongside Neil Gaiman‘s SandmanWarren EllisTransmetropolitan and Grant Morrison‘s The Invisibles, the publishing house released material with mature themes and often an excess of violence; both inherent in Garth EnnisPreacher. Though the trailer is fairly tame, we can expect bucket-loads of blood and black humour when the series hits our screens next year. Check out the intense, slow-burning trailer below:
