‘Gravity’, ‘The Conjuring’ & ‘Mud’ Among The Best Movies of 2013 | Film News

2013 wasn’t really a good year for movies as many of the highly anticipated movies fell short of expectation as seen in our list of worst movies. However a number of good movies were released this year and we have selected 14 of our best movies out of the lot released this year as compiled by Movie Markers. Check them all out, arranged in alphabetical order below.

42
This well adapted biographical sports film stars newcomer Chadwick Boseman as the legendary baseball player Jackie Robinson who became the first African-American player to play in the Major League Baseball (MLB). The acting in this 42 hits the mark and Brian Helgeland does a good job directing the picture.

Captain Phillips
Tom Hanks gives a wonderful performance as Captain Richard Phillips in this movie based on historical events that occurred in 2009 where Somali pirates hijacked a cargo ship.

Despicable Me 2
Those adorable minions are back in this animated comedy film which has a good plot featuring Gru once again embarking on a mission to save the day.

Fast & Furious 6
Justin Lin along with the cast of Fast and Furious 5 including Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson return for this well put-together fast paced action movie which has scenes guaranteed to keep you in your seat.

Gravity
Sandra Bullock and George Clooney deliver award-worthy performances as astronauts who are involved in an accident that leaves them adrift in space in this Sci-Fi thriller directed by Alfonso Cuaron.

Monsters University
This prequel to the hit 2001 animated movie, Monster Inc. was long awaited and Pixar managed to come through on this one. With enough time to work on the script, the movie ended up being an ideal movie suitable for everyone (Just like 2009’s Up).

Mud
Matthew McConaughey teams up with Sam Shepard and Reese Witherspoon in this drama, and like his recent projects, McConaughey delivers a lovely performance in this compelling story.

Prisoners
Hugh Jackman hid those claws of his and the growl on his face in Wolverine to team up with a number of popular actors including Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis & Terrence Howard for this captivating thriller.

Rush
Prior to the release of Rush, Chris Hemsworth was seen by many as a fluke that would probably be done once his role as Thor comes to an end. However thanks to the amazing screenplay and Ron Howard at the helm of this movie, Chris was able to deliver a performance that you won’t forget so easily.

The Conjuring
For one reason or the other horror movies don’t carry as much weight as they once used to. However The Conjuring manages to stay on point as a true horror movie with a good script and lovely acting from those involved.

The Place Beyond The Pines
While many might immediately think of Ryan Gosling’s 2011 movie (Drive), the moment this movie begins, this one also starring Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes is nothing close to it as this one has a well developed plot that will keep you following it till the end.

The World’s End
Edgar Wright reunites with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost for yet another awesome comedy which doesn’t fail to deliver the humor promised.

This is the End
Seth Rogen hooks up with James Franco, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson and Emma Watson for this well scripted hilarious movie on the aftermath of a global apocalypse.

Trance
Three years after his last movie (127 hours) and five years after his hit movie Slumdog Millionaire, Danny Boyle returned with the thriller Trance – a movie worth taking time out to watch.
