Warner Brothers have announced that the release date of Guy Ritchie’s Arthurian legend adaptation has been postponed from July 22, 2016 to February 17, 2017. The movie entitled Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur is set to star Charlie Hunnan in the titular role, with fellow heavyweights Jude Law, Eric Bana, Djimon Hounsou and Katie McGrath.

The most plausible reason for this delay was a change in the WB calendar. This is rather fortunate or unfortunate (take your pick) as it avoids a box office confrontation with Paramount’s Star Trek Beyond but pits it against potential box office juggernauts in Fox’s Maze Runner: Death Cure and Bad Boys III, Sony’s eagerly awaited cop flick. Ritchie himself expressed his intention of turning the Arthurian legend into a series á la Sherlock Holmes and with such a cast, it should stand the test of time.
