Gwendoline Christie

She was a highly anticipated character, appearing in several trailers and even getting her own promo poster, only to end up in the trash compactor…However, it turns out we haven’t seen the last of Gwendoline Christie’s Captain Phasma, for the actress herself has confirmed she will be returning in 2017’s Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Speaking to People, Gweldoline excitedly confirmed the news by stating “I will be in the next Star Wars movie”. Given her short performance in The Force Awakens, several fans were left highly disappointed with her character, leaving many wondering why she received the advertising she got.

She also revealed how honoured she feels to be a part of the franchise; especially after she learnt Captain Phasma was originally designed for a man: “I made no secret of the fact that I really campaigned for the part for a long time,” she said.

Christie continued, “and then I was delighted when [director] J.J Abrams wanted to have me in the film and then wanted to cast me in this role that had originally been designed for a man”. Let’s just hope she gets more screen time in Episode VIII!
