It was one of the most shockingly heartbreaking scenes in cinematic history, but Harrison Ford has finally spoken about his thoughts on the fate of Han Solo. Although Star Wars fans were left devastated when the space smuggler was murdered at the hand of his estranged son Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Ford has explained that he feels it’s a “fitting use of the character”.

Speaking in an interview, he admitted: “I’ve been arguing for Han Solo to die for about 30 years, not because I was tired of him or because he’s boring, but his sacrifice for the other characters would lend gravitas and emotional weight“. Originally Ford fought for Han to be killed off in the first trilogy, but George Lucas decided against his wishes.

When asked whether he holds a grudge against Kylo Ren, Ford could only praise Driver’s performance, stating he was an “absolute pleasure” to work with: “He works independently with real proper ambition. He brings a lot to the table. He’s a wonderful actor and a very kind, generous human being.
