Ibeyi – Mama Says | New Music

French/Cuban duo Ibeyi, consisting of twin sisters Naomi and Lisa-Kainde Diaz, have just released a new track titled “Mama Says” with XL Recordings. While only accompanied by various finger snap beats and piano chords, the simplicity and minimalist nature of the song only strengthens the beauty, power, and emotion of the sisters’ entrancing vocals. They sing most of the song in English, along with a portion of chanting in the West African language of Yoruba. “Mama Says” is available to buy on iTunes here. Ibeyi are also playing a free show at Rough Trade West on Monday, September 22, so be sure to check them out there, listen to “Mama Says” below.

My name is Alexa, and I am from Nashville, Tennessee. For this fall term, I am studying in central London through a program with my college, the University of North Carolina. My favorite type of music is country, but I also love various forms of many genres including rock, hip-hop, alternative, r&b, americana, folk and pop. My dream is to someday work in the country music industry as a songwriter. I have loved getting to know this wonderful city and am looking forward to experiencing the music culture of London and to working at We Plug Good Music.
