Idris Elba is to star in a new TV drama from the Oscar winning writer of 12 Years A Slave, John Ridley – who will write, direct and executive produce the thriller. The show is entitled Guerilla, and follows a couple whose passion for political activism transforms them into radical militants in 1970s London.

The thriller is based on real events, the couple’s ultimate goal to take down the Black Power Desk, a unit within the Special Branch of the Met police force which was dedicated to crushing all forms of Black activism.

Elba commented on the casting: “It’s been a long-time desire of mine to collaborate with Mr Ridley and his work here is nothing short of a masterclass in character building and storytelling,” said Elba. “TV is in for a treat“.
