J.J Abrams Reveals Rian Johnson’s ‘Star Wars Episode VIII’ Script Is Finished | Film News

Even though we’re still counting down the days for J.J. Abrams’ upcoming blockbuster Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, excitement for the currently untitled Star Wars: Episode VIII has already began, as  Abrams has revealed during an interview with Wired that the script for the eighth episode in the saga is already finished:

“The script for VIII is written. I’m sure rewrites are going to be endless, like they always are. But what Larry, (Force Awakens co-writer Lawrence Kasdan), and I did was set up certain key relationships, certain key questions, conflicts. And we knew where certain things were going. I showed Rian an early cut of the movie, because I knew he was doing his rewrite and prepping. And as executive producer of VIII, I need that movie to be really good. Withholding serves no one and certainly not the fans. So we’ve been as transparent as possible”.

Episode VIII is set to be directed by Rian Johnson, who previously wrote and directed 2012’s Looper, which earned $176.5 million in the box office. For those of you that need news straight from the horse’s mouth, Johnson himself posted a picture on Twitter last month which revealed the script cover page for Episode VIII, providing visual proof that the movie is beyond mere discussion and planning.

It has also been rumoured Johnson will write Episode IX, under the direction of Colin Trevorrow. If this is true, it’s a good job Johnson is working hard to finish Episode VIII! Although this news is exciting, for now we’re all definitely more interested in the FIRST TV spot trailer for Episode VII. See The Force Awakens on 18 December 2015.
