Jake Gyllenhaal & Rene Russo Join Dan Gilroy’s Netflix Project | Film News

While Dan Gilroy‘s most recent film Roman J. Israel, Esq. was met with mostly shrugs, his directorial debut Nightcrawler remains well loved. His latest film that he’s making for Netflix, currently in production in Los Angeles, is looking to recapture part of what made that film great: the cast.

Gilroy is re-teaming with Nightcrawler stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo on his latest project, which is reportedly a horror-thriller. The duo join an already stellar cast that includes John Malkovich, Toni Collette and Daveed Diggs.

There’s no word yet on what roles the two will be playing, but details regarding the film have mostly been kept under wraps thus far. We do know that the plot will revolve around “big-money artists and mega-collectors who pay a high price when art collides with commerce”. Speaking last year, Gilroy teased that the film is “set in the world of contemporary art in Los Angeles”, while adding:

“[it’s] got a Robert Altman-like large ensemble cast. It’s got a The Player vibe to it. There’s a large cast and we’re moving around from person to person as we move through this world”. He also teased that it would open on Halloween, which shows what kind of vibe this project is likely going for.

Whether that’s true or not we’ll have to wait and see, as the film is still untitled at this point and is at the mercy of Netflix’s release schedule. What we do know is that Gilroy’s latest will have plenty of buzz around it when it does finally arrive.
