Today brings our first look at ITV’s new genre bending drama, Jekyll And Hyde. The show merges elements of Robert Louie Stevenson’s original novel The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with contemporary science fiction and fantasy. Written and executively produced by author Charlie Higson, the series promises lashings of action, intrigue, and gothic romance.

Set in 1930s London, amidst the rise of Hollywood glamour and art deco chic, Jekyll And Hyde follows the eponymous anti-hero, grandson of the Stevenson’s ill-fated character, as he searches for the source of his Janus-like nature. Jekyll – Tom Bateman (Da Vinci’s Demons) – a well meaning if unimpressive young man is harried by his alter ego, the self-destructive ego-based Hyde, who’s strength and invulnerability will no doubt become a boon if the action heavy trailer, below, is anything to go by.

The series also stars Richard E. Grant as Balistrode, the head of an elusive government agency known as ‘The Invisible Men’, while Natalie Gumede takes the role of Bella, a love interest shared by both Jekyll and Hyde. The CGI heavy 10-part drama will air on ITV 1 in October, later this year.
