Johnny Depp To Voice Character In Upcoming ‘Sherlock Gnomes’ | Film News

Is there anything he can’t do? Acting legend Johnny Depp is set to lend his voice to the ‘punny’ titular character Sherlock Gnomes in MGM and Paramount Animation film’s upcoming Sherlock Gnomes. Due for release in 2018, the film will act as a sequel to 2011’s Gnomeo & Juliet.  Based off of William Shakespear’s Romeo and Juliet (pretty obvious), the original earned approximately $194 million in the box office; indicating high expectations for the upcoming sequel.

The movie will feature the returns of Emily Blunt and James McAvoy, who originally voiced the protagonists Juliet and Gnomeo. In the new film, Juliet and Gnomeo will employ Depp’s character Sherlock Gnomes – a detective, (also obvious), to investigate the mysterious disappearances of garden gnomes in London.  This will not be Depp’s first voice acting role, as he previously voiced Victor Van Dort in The Corpse Bride (2005) and pet chameleon Rango in the movie Rango. The film is due for release 12 January 2018.
