Kristen Wiig Joins Matt Damon In ‘Downsizing’ | Film News

It has been reported that Kristen Wiig, star of the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot will join Matt Damon on Alexander Payne’s latest cinematic adventure: Downsizing. She will be taking the place of Reese Witherspoon, a previous Payne collaborator on 1999’s Election, who has been forced to drop out due to a scheduling conflict.

Looking at Payne’s career, it’s like looking out across a field of gold: from About Schmidt in 2002 to Sideways in 2004 to Nebraska in 2013, Payne hasn’t put a step wrong his entire career. Downsizing is his latest project, and as if his name wasn’t enough to draw in an audience, he has co-written it with his Sideways collaborator, Jim Taylor.

Downsizing follows the story of Matt Damon as he shrinks himself in an effort to save money (as you do). Having been shrunk, Damon meets Wiig’s character at a village for the similarly shrunk and short of cash. Also along for the ride are Christoph Waltz and Hong Chau.

Downsizing won’t be hitting cinemas until 2017, so we can next see Kristen Wiig in Ghostbusters on July 15 and Matt Damon in Jason Bourne on July 28.
