Whenever someone mentions animation, the majority of people will think of Disney, Pixar or Studio Ghibli. They have long been at the forefront of the technology, producing a never-ending stream of content that is immediately popular with children and adults alike. However, Laika Entertainment are looking to break into the upper echelons of animated features with their latest picture, Kubo and the Two Strings.

This has been a long, hard slog for the production company that started in earnest with 2009’s Coraline and was continued with the equally successful ParaNorman and The Boxtrolls. The latest production from Laika Entertainment will be an important statement from the company if it proves as successful as its predecessors and in anticipation of its cinematic release, Laika have released their first teaser trailer for Kubo and the Two Strings.

Set in ancient Japan, a young boy name Kubo cares for his mother. His peaceful life is turned upside-down when a visitation from a spirit causes gods and monsters to chase after Kubo, who can only hope to defeat them by recovering the armour of his father, a legendary Samurai warrior. Kubo and the Two Strings features an all-star cast of Art Parkinson (as Kubo), Charlize Theron, Matthew McConaughey, Rooney Mara, Ralph Fiennes and George Takei. Laika’s Kubo and the Two Strings will be released on August 19, 2016 and you can check out the teaser trailer below.
