‘Luther’ Star Idris Elba Awarded An OBE In New Year’s Honours List | TV News
Luther star Idris Elba will be digging out his best suit and polishing his shoes as he’s set to receive an OBE from the Queen as part of her New Year’s Honours List today (January 1). In a statement to the press, Elba gave a characteristically charismatic response: “Awards and honours come in all shapes and sizes and all as significant as the other. But this is beyond special as it comes from Queen and country, and I couldn’t be more proud for receiving this right now. What a year. On me head son”.
Other celebrities being honoured with an OBE are Cold Feet actor James Nesbitt, musical actress Imelda Staunton and DJ/actor Goldie. Spooks star David Oyelowo, who portrayed Martin Luther King in the film Selma, will also be awarded an OBE. Eastenders’ royalty and Carry On icon Barbara Windsor will also become a Dame in the New Year.
