M.I.A Pulls Out Of Headlining Afropunk’s London Festival | Music News
Last week’s announcement that M.I.A would headline London’s first Afropunk Festival proved controversial. Many music fans pointed to comments regarding the Black Lives Matter movement in April by the artist as to why she was wrong for the line-up. Afropunk is due to take place on Saturday, September 24 at London’s Alexandra Palace.
M.I.A responded to this feedback via Twitter on Sunday, June 19 then again last night (Monday, June 20). Last night that she claimed she would no longer headline the festival, saying, “I’ve been told to stay in my lane”. Representatives for both M.I.A. and Afropunk have been asked for clarification and comment.
