Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn Now Set For ‘The Suicide Squad’ After All | Film News

It was once thought that with Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn having multiple projects in the works, including Birds Of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn), she would not be appearing in the Suicide Squad sequel. However, it seems that may no longer be the case.

With James Gunn (Guardians Of The Galaxy) now on board to direct, and the film being less of a sequel, Quinn will reportedly be back with the group for new shenanigans. This makes sense, as the film is now titled The Suicide Squad and is designed to be more of a soft reboot for the franchise after the 2016 film was critically reviled.

It was indeed first reported that Robbie wouldn’t be back for the sequel, but an expansive piece by Forbes explains that that is “out of date”, and she will in fact appear in the new film.

The report does state however, that the planned film with Robbie’s Quinn and Jared Leto‘s Joker is dead. As is the standalone Leto Joker film. Reasons aren’t given as to why this is the case, but it may have something to do with the separate Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix arriving in October of this year.

After Robbie’s performance was practically the only thing most people liked about the first film, getting her back for The Suicide Squad was a logical move. We’ll see if Gunn can weave his Guardians magic and give us the Suicide Squad film we all hoped for a few years ago. Production is expected to begin later this year.
