Following the surprising announcement that Matt LeBlanc will join Chris Evans in hosting Top Gear, the former Friends star has confessed that he is “amazed” with the positive response he has received from fans.

Speaking in an interview with co-host Evans on Radio 2, LeBlanc admitted he “can’t believe the response” he’s generated, whilst explaining that he didn’t realise how far the news would travel, despite Top Gear being an incredibly popular programme: “I knew Top Gear was a big show. But, wow, I was on the front page of the New York Times”.

He continued, revealing how he’d been “ducking paparazzi all day long” and excitedly explained how he’s “looking forward to smashing up some cars” with Evans. Of course, this shouldn’t be completely new for the American actor, having already appeared on the show twice and managing to set a record-breaking lap time of 1 minute 42.1 seconds, which still remains unbeaten.

When summing up his interview, LeBlanc said “I’m so honoured and thrilled. I can’t wait to get going”; whilst optimistically suggesting that him and his new presenting partner are going to make a formidable team: “I think we’re going to have a great time and I couldn’t think of a better guy to do it with. You and I are going to have a lot of fun”.

Top Gear will return this May, see a tweet of LeBlanc reading up on his knowledge and a clip of his record breaking lap below:
