Matt Reeves Confirmed As Director For ‘The Batman’ | Film News

Warner Bros. had been having a difficult time looking for the right person to fill in the role of director for The Batman after Ben Affleck had stepped away from the commitment, but it looks like their troubles are finally over!

The past couple of weeks have seen director, Matt Reeves, and the company butt heads during negotiations and it seemed that the idea of Reeves directing was becoming less and less likely, but in an official press release today, Warner Bros. announced they had nabbed Reeves in the end after all!

We are thrilled to have Matt Reeves taking the helm of Batman, the crown jewel of our DC slate. Matt’s deep roots in genre films and his evolution into an emotional world-building director make him the perfect filmmaker to guide the Dark Knight through this next journey,” stated Toby Emmerich, President and Chief Content Officer of Warner Bros. Pictures Group.

Reeves, the man behind Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and War For The Planet Of The Apes, also commented: “I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen”.

No release date has been set currently, but confirmed cast members include Joe Manganiello, J.K. Simmons, Jeremy Irons, and Ben Affleck, who will be reprising his role as Batman.
