Chicago emcee Mick Jenkins announced himself as one of the ones to watch with his immersive 2014 mixtape The Water[s]. Having made a splash, he’s moving on to bigger things now, readying a new project entitled The Wave[s], and the Lee Bannon-produced “Alchemy”, the first taster, is a serious knock-out. The beat is murky, with a touch of menace thrown in, and it’s got Jenkins in warring mood: “murdering flows it’s blood on the carpet“. The impact he made with a bit of water was quite devastating. Imagine what he’s gonna do with some waves.
