Mitski – Happy | Music Video
Mitski‘s jarring and melancholic tune “Happy” now has a music video that also fits these descriptions. The opening scenes are the happiest, yet also one of the most unsettling; a military wife greets her husband with a kiss as rapid drums beats out of sync with the vocals. The tone then shifts throughout, gradually getting worse and leads to a climax that instantly reminded me of American Psycho.
Director Maegan Houang said via Noisey that “I wanted to explore the impact other people’s actions—from affairs to murdering other people—have on the ones closet to them, as we still live in a very solipsistic society”.
