Morrissey Finds Nothing Funny About David Cameron’s Pig Scandal | Music News
If you live in the UK, you’ve almost certainly heard about what Prime Minister David Cameron may or may not have done to a pig whilst at Oxford University. In case you haven’t, I’ll just leave this here… Of course, the scandal has already spawned Photoshopped images, hashtags like #piggate and #DavidHameron, and general hilarity. Morrissey, however, does not see the funny side.
The Smiths front-man and animal rights activist agrees with PETA when they say that Cameron should resign if the rumours are true. On the news section of Morrissey fan site True To You, he adds to the original article and states: “No, boys won’t be boys – not when it’s sexual perversion and also involves a vulnerable victim of slaughter, a feeling being who lost his or her life and then was used for a prank. […] It shows a callousness and complete lack of empathy entirely unbefitting a man in his position, and he should resign”. In the midst of something so sensational, it’s hard to remember that what occurred was the violation of a once-living being, not merely a shocking rumour.
