‘Mr Turner’ Sex Scene Receives Most Complaints Of 2014 | Film News

Today (July 14), it has been revealed that the sex scene in Mike Leigh’s Mr Turner garnered the most complaints of 2014. In the film, Turner bedded down with his housekeeper, and poor poor viewers were subjected to the abhorrent sight of his clenching buttocks. People were not happy with this at all, nineteen people were in fact so horrified that they wrote to the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) to complain about the scene.

The BBFC explained that the complaints the 12A rated film received were “very low” and a “tiny portion” of viewers and argued that the the film was appropriately rated, considering the “the lack of nudity, the relative brevity of the scene and its importance in terms of narrative“. Well regardless of how many complaints the film received, I doubt Timothy Spall (JMW Turner) is that concerned, his role did earn him a ‘Best Actor’ prize at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. I guess clenching cheeks aren’t all that bad.
