Musicians React To Donald Trump’s Transgender Military Ban | Music News

Another day, another Donald Trump-related issue that triggers public unrest.

In a surprise announcement via Twitter on July 26, President Trump let it be known that “the United States Government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail”.

Of course, people had something to say about that.

There have already been various outcries from celebrities and musicians following the controversial announcement (read Lady Gaga‘s heart-felt reaction here, too), but our website hasn’t yet focused on this backlash. Consider that rectified.

In a new video compiled by Billboard with the support of GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), artists including Sia, The Chainsmokers, and Rita Ora voice tidbits of support for the transgender community.

The video includes how faithfully transgender people have “served honourably for decades” in the military, making up an estimated 15,000 people. It concludes with how much they love and support transgender people, adding to the seeds of hope planted for the oft-downtrodden group.

The stellar effort by all involved is listed in the Pride section of Billboard’s website and can be viewed below:
