NAO – Girlfriend | New Music

After two years on the underground scene and a stellar collaboration with Disclosure, NAO, stage name of the British singer-songwriter Neo Jessica Joshua, is ready to take over the charts. The East London R&B singer has just premiered her brand new single “Girlfriend” on Annie Mac’s radio show on BBC Radio 1, where the famous DJ named the track “Hottest Record in the World”.

“Girlfriend” follows up the critically acclaimed EPs So Good and February 15 (II MMXV), both receiving the ‘Best New Music’ tag on Pitchfork. As well as premiering the single, NAO announced the release of her debut album For All We Know, out on the 26th of July via Little Tokyo Recordings/RCA, and containing the previously released buzz singles “Bad Blood” and “Fool To Love”, as well as a new collaboration with A. K. Paul and 13 brand new tracks.

I speak as loud as the volume I listen to music, and this is probably symptomatic of my love for pop music: I love pop music because it is often unapologetically in-your-face, it shouts rather than tell, it drives you crazy. And after 21 years loving pop music, I think I’ve completely gone mad. It all started in 1997, when my mum bought me my first cassette: needless to say, it was ‘Barbie Girl’ by Aqua, and from that point on, it’s been a never-ending loving relationship between me and music. I study, work and live life part-time, and listen to music full-time.
