Neil Blomkamp Unveils New Concept Art For Upcoming ‘Alien’ Movie | Film News

Director Neil Blomkamp (District 9, Chappie) has pitched his vision of Alien to the world by revealing concept art online. When a director with such unique and recognizable style (plus a penchant for post apocalyptic visual landscape) creates fan art, the world listens. Since the first images were revealed in March, the Alien studio Fox have offered Blomkamp the opportunity to turn his vision into a reality and this is the first teaser from the director about his upcoming venture into the world of Alien. He uploaded it to Instagram with the caption: “#alien going very well. Love this project“.

Very little is known about the project so far, Blomkamp appears to be taking a fluid approach to his creation, having hinted that the movie will take place after Aliens (1986) or Alien 3 (1992) and may or may not acknowledge Alien Resurrection (1997). This latest piece of art features Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and acid burned Hicks (Michael Biehn). As the original actors likenesses are continually used, we can hopefully surmise that both actors will be returning for the feature.

Blomkamp stated to Comingsoon.net in February that discussing the Alien franchise with Weaver on set of his movie Chappie (2015) served as a major inspiration that fueled his re-imagining: “[Sigourney] knows about it…………. and part of it was just inspired by speaking to her on set when we were filming ‘Chappie,’ and getting her thoughts on ‘Alien’ and what she thought of the movies that came after ‘Aliens’ and what she felt about Ripley and what was incomplete for her about Ripley. There was so much fuel in what she was telling me”.

Alien alum Ridley Scott is on board as a producer for the not yet titled movie and a release date is yet to be announced. Hopefully we will get a chance to see some on set images soon and these artworks come to life. Here are some of the earlier images released.
