New Disney Film ‘Queen of Katwe’ To Star Lupita Nyong’o | Film News
Lupita Nyonog’o is reportedly in discussions to star in a new upcoming Disney movie Queen of Katwe. The Disney film is set to follow the story of Phiona Mutesi, a Ugandan chess master, who eventually becomes a Women Candidate Master (for those of you not familiar with Chess, it’s a performance based title awarded to a player who achieves at least a rating of 2000) with the help of her coach, which Selma actor David Oyelowo is reported to be attached.
The project is also to be jointly produced by ESPN films, as the story was based on a 2011 ESPN article and book, The Queen of Katwe: A Story of Life, Chess and One Extraordinary Girl’s Dream of Becoming a Grandmaster.
While Nyong’o’s role is yet to be confirmed, according to Kontrolgirl.com, the actress is set to star as Phione’s mother.
