New ‘Ghostbusters’ Stills Released | Film News

It may seem like progress and promotion has been slow to come for the new Ghostbusters film but believe it or not, it is out this year. Today, we get a new glimpse into the crew that everyone should have on speed-dial in the form of character stills.

The images show lead actresses Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones in costume as well as Chris Hemsworth in his role as their secretary, Kevin.

For those that don’t know the basic plot for Ghostbusters (shame on you), the original followed the story of parapsychologists Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) who, after an encounter with a ghost and losing their jobs at Columbia University, join together to form the Ghostbusters: a ghost-catching business.

In the gender-inverted reboot due this year, Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy are colleagues, Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates respectively, at Columbia University who published a book together on the paranormal.

Kate McKinnon is Jillian Holtzman, a nuclear engineer and Abby’s partner, and Leslie Jones is Patty Tolan, a subway engineer who discovers the paranormal activity that provokes the characters to become the Ghostbusters. Chris Hemsworth is taking the place of Annie Potts’ secretary Janine Melnitz.

Regular McCarthy collaborator Paul Feig is directing the picture, having already worked with her on BridesmaidsThe Heat and Spy. McCarthy and Wiig have also worked together on Bridesmaids and have clear comical chemistry between them, which makes Ghostbusters a film to look forward to later in the year.

Ghostbusters will be released July 15 and you can see the new character stills below.
