Dan Brown‘s best selling mystery thriller novel, The Da Vinci Code, was made into a film directed by Ron Howard and starring the popular Tom Hanks in the lead role of Robert Langdon in 2006. The sequel Angels and Demons followed three years later, but was not received well critically or commercially. Now six years on, the first images of the next film in the series, based on the book of the same name, Inferno, have been released.

Columbia also released an official synopsis: Robert Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Sienna Brooks, a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories and prevent a madman from releasing a global plague connected to Dante’s Inferno.
