The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is an event that needs everyone’s attention please, this incredible event is being held from the 25th of April until May 4th and is set be a festival you will not forget! Just to give you a little taste into how this festival came about and the true spirit of how it was formed, I am going to tell you a very short but historical story that goes back to 1970 about a lady known as Mahalia Jackson.

“Often called the greatest Gospel singer, Jackson returned to her hometown to appear at the first New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in April of 1970, without previously being booked. While attending the Louisiana Heritage Fair in Congo Square (then known as Beauregard Square), she and Duke Ellington – who also appeared at the event – came upon the Eureka Brass Band leading a crowd of second-line revelers through the Festival grounds. George Wein, producer of the festival, handed Ms. Jackson a microphone, she sang along with the band and joined the parade, and the spirit of Jazz Fest was born.”

This years line up truly is mind blowing and I have never seen so many idolised names on one list. Let me just drop you a few of those names – Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Christina Aguilera, Trey Songz, Robin Thicke, Vampire Weekend, Fostor the People, and the list goes on and on!
