Nicole Kidman To Star In ‘Destroyer’ From ‘The Invitation’ Director | Film News

After winning an Emmy for her role in Big Little Lies, appearing in The Beguiled and Lion, and having roles in the upcoming The Killing Of A Sacred Deer and Aquaman, Nicole Kidman is officially back. She’s taking advantage of her fresh new spotlight, and has signed on to star in Destroyer, a crime thriller set in Los Angeles to be directed by Karyn Kusama (The Invitation).

The film will be based on an original screenplay by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, who also wrote The Invitation, and will revolve around LAPD detective Erin Bell who, after being placed undercover in a cult-like gang in the California desert as a young cop, with tragic results, has to face the re-emerged leader years later to finally reckon with the demons that destroyed her past.

Producer Fred Berger said: “Phil and Matt have written one of the most compelling screenplays I’ve ever read, Nicole is at the top of her game — doing tremendously exciting work — and Karyn is one of the most assured voices working today. It’s a powerful combination, sure to produce an iconic character, and I feel lucky to be in their company”.

While personally I found The Invitation to be a disappointment, there’s plenty out there who love it and there’s no doubt it was drenched in foreboding tension, so Kusama is certainly a director to watch. Pairing her with an elite, experienced talent like Kidman for an exciting sounding thriller seems like (hopefully) a recipe for success.
