Conversations About Her

Noname – Freedom Interlude | New Music

Chicago rapper and poet, Noname, who recently dropped the ‘Gypsy’ from the latter half of her moniker, shared “Freedom Interlude” earlier, via her SoundCloud page. The jazzy beat, courtesy of Saba and Phoelix, is a perfect backdrop for her vocal delivery.

It is sleep inducing, but in a good way. Very relaxing, it washes over the listener. She can definitely rap, but spoken word is definitely more her style and is very intellectual. It is quite short, just under the three minute mark, but what it condenses makes for no filler. The late Nina Simone makes an appearance via an interview snippet, mid-song.

I've always wanted to be involved in the media since before I even left school; to write for a living.I feel most eloquent when mapping out my thoughts on paper or on a computer screen.I studied media at college for two years, and went straight into third year at university studying publishing with journalism. After a range of work experience, I did a magazine journalism course in Bournemouth, a long way away from my hometown of Aberdeen, achieving my NCTJ qualifications. Now I spend my time gladly writing about music.
