One Direction’s Liam Payne Criticised For Heteronormative Comment | Music News

It’s easy to say something that has the potential to offend without forethought or bad intent, which is what Liam Payne did recently. At their Ohio concert on August 18 whilst introducing “Girl Almighty”, the 21-year-old singer said: “This is my favourite song off the last album, and it is about trying to find that number one woman of your life, which none of you can relate to, because most of you are girls. Except for the boys in here, you know what I’m talking about”. This caused some people to react badly, as what he said related only to heterosexual people. He apologised on Twitter and said that he wasn’t homophobic, he didn’t mean to offend, and all he wanted to do was “make people happy in a show”. Some didn’t see an issue with the comment, while others tried to explain why they were offended.
