Paweł Pawlikowski’s ‘Cold War’ Bought By Amazon Studios | Film News

Amazon Studios continues its attraction to big-name indie films by signing on Cold War from Paweł Pawlikowski. The period romance, rather obviously, takes place across Poland, Berlin, Yugoslavia, and Paris in the 1950s, a time of great divide and hostility. Pawlikowski has written the script and will, of course, direct.

Paweł Pawlikowski is most known for Polish film Ida (2013), starring Agata Kulesza and Agata Trzebuchowska. The film won Pawlikowski the 2015 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and garnered the director significant attention.

Oscar glory is certainly still on he table with this upcoming feature, with Amazon Studios already having struck big with Kenneth Lonergan’s Manchester by the Sea (2017, Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay) and Asghar Farhadi’s The Salesman (2017, Best Foreign Language Film).

Cold War is just another in a plethora of films coming up from Amazon Studios; both Todd HaynesWonderstruck and Richard Linklater’s Last Flag Flying will both premiere later this year, while the studio has just bought rights to co-distribute The Goldfinch with Warner Bros.
