Ronnie James Dio Hologram Debuts In Germany | Music News
Metal industry icon and legend, Ronnie James Dio, passed away in 2010, but this year marks his return to the stage in hologram form. During Dio Disciples‘ set at Wacken Open Air in Germany, the hologram performed alongside the band for a special performance of “We Rock”. This also marks the first time a hologram has played alongside a live rock band set.
The creators (The tech group Eyellusion) and Dio’s widow Wendy opened up to Rolling Stone to talk about the process, with Wendy stating “It was quite, quite scary. Our crew, when they first saw it at rehearsal, they were in tears. It’s absolutely amazing”.
Eyellusion’s CEO was very positive when talking about the experience and it’s impact on the live performance industry, saying “We’re celebrating Ronnie in his prime, it’s the closest we are going to get to the real Dio and I think that’s really what it’s about”.
