Rumours Surrounding Departure Of ‘Doctor Who’ Companion Addressed | TV News

If you watch Doctor Who, you are surely no stranger to the rumours that the current companion, Clara Oswald, will be leaving during this year’s Christmas Special. If you were a stranger to these rumours, you’re not anymore. Both Capaldi and Coleman, who play the Doctor and Clara respectively, have addressed the rumours in very ambivalent terms. Capaldi said on The One Show that he is not “looking for a new assistant. I don’t know where these rumours have started. I mean I’ve read that she might be leaving at Christmas but I don’t even know if she’ll get to Christmas. You’ve just got to watch and wait and see what happens”. Clearly, Capaldi is either playing dumb, or knows nothing about future cast changes.

Coleman, however, had a very coy approach. On This Morning, she stated that “I don’t want to tell you the truth because I quite like these rumours. I think it’s really interesting because, suddenly, people don’t know what’s going to happen in the series, people don’t have any idea, so this speculation is quite good. People can now watch the show not knowing if I am or not, and that is quite exciting”. So if they do know something, they’re certainly not letting on. Overall, the best fans can do is watch the show and see what happens.
