Sam Raimi To Produce Female-Fronted Horror Film ‘Behind’ For Lionsgate | Film News

Per THR, Lionsgate have picked up a film package for Behind, which has Sam Raimi producing a big-screen adaptation of an acclaimed short horror film of the same name.

Angel Gomez directed the short, which has reeled in numerous awards across a variety of film festivals, and he’s also set to direct the feature length adaptation as well. Zak Olkewicz will pen the script, while Romel Adam, the head of Ghosthouse Pictures, will be overseeing the film. Ghosthouse and Lionsgate have a long-standing partnership, spanning from The Grudge remake to the recent Don’t Breathe.

The film itself revolves around a woman going through a divorce who comes to fear that she will lose her baby daughter. When a mysterious woman she meets at a party tells her she is being followed, what at first seems like a delusion quickly turns into a terrifying nightmare as the woman does everything she can to save her child from evil incarnate.

The Lionsgate deal was reportedly made in a competitive situation. Having Raimi on board as a producer is probably a huge source of confidence, as he’s the mind behind horror classics such as the first two Evil Dead movies. If he is backing a horror film, it is likely worth seeking out.

While Raimi hasn’t directed a film himself since 2013’s Oz The Great And Powerful – to the disappointment of many – he’s clearly staying involved in the business, and if Behind is a success, could use this is a jumping off point for his next project. This is also a huge opportunity for Gomez to make his mark in the horror world.
