Netflix has landed yet another star studded project to its to-do-list, in the form of thriller Bird Box starring Sandra Bullock. The Eric Heisserer-scripted thriller will be directed by Susanne Bier (Serena, 2014, and The Night Manager) and produced by Dylan Clark, Chris Morgan, and Clayton Townsend.

Bird Box is based on the 2014 novel by Josh Malerman. A mother – to be played by Bullock – and her two children wander along a river in a post-apocalyptic setting. They are survivors of a mysterious alien force and deadly violence, and must make their way home, blindfolded and trusting one another. I don’t quite get the plot but I’m sure it will translate on screen.

The film does have promise thanks to the team behind it; Bird Box homes two Oscar winners in Bullock and Bier (Best Actress for The Blind Side (2009) and Best Foreign-Language Film for In a Better World (2010), respectively). Heisserer, meanwhile, was nominated for Arrival (2016) and earned the No. 1 spot on the 2014 Blood List, the horror genre equivalent of the Black List.

Production for Bird Box begins September in Los Angeles.
